We said our goodbyes to Toowoomba:
Before leaving we inspected our house and appreciated the view one last time. |
Then we had lunch at Fitzy's, thanks to one of Roger's farewell gift cards. Much appreciated! |
We were very aware that we won't travel this road, which is so familiar, for a very long time. So here is our last view of Gowrie Mountain, from the highway heading west from Toowoomba. |
The Darling Downs turned on a beautiful wide-open sunset over paddocks of green wheat. |
By the time we got to our motel in Chinchilla we really couldn't face going out to eat at another pub. We shut the doors and windows so we couldn't smell the aromas from the BBQ being cooked up by the Qld Rail fellas inhabiting the rest of the motel and made do with left overs from lunch washed down with tea and motel biscuits.
The QR fellas were up at early o'clock the next day but we held strong and stayed in bed until the sun came up.

Good Morning from Chinchilla. |
All the little towns clicked by on the way to Roma as we reminisced about the hundreds of times we have driven that stretch of highway: Drillham; Dulacca; Jackson; Yuleba; Wallumbilla; and just like that we were back in Roma, washing clothes and making lists of everything we have to do before we leave.
