We've Been Struck by Pet Paralysis.
In Melbourne my daughter was afflicted with feline paralysis, a devastating condition which results in periodic inability to move due to the presence of a sleeping cat (feline) on one's lap. The feline in question was my new grandcat and I had no choice but to meet her as soon as possible on arrival in Melbourne.
So I did.
Roger immediately caught cat paralysis too. It's very contagious. |
Melbourne turned on a beautiful morning for us to move into our next home. Small white boats floated on a blue silk sea and the cliffs at Red Bluff were reminiscent of the Fleurieu Peninsula.
The good weather persisted long enough for us to take the dogs for a walk and explore the local area, before coming in miserable and reminding us that winter wasn't over yet. The little dogs recovered from the trauma of being abandoned by their owners and transferred their fickle allegiance to us as soon as we fed them.
Food and walks. It's a simple life. |
I quickly realised that canine paralysis was a real affliction too, and that Dog 1 (D1) would inflict it as soon as my bottom hit the lounge chair seat. I suspected it had something to do with my fluffy dressing gown, his lack of any type of warm coat in the cold weather, and possibly the fact that I was sitting in his spot and he wasn't going to let that stop him from sitting there too.
Looking for warmth. |
D2 was made of sterner stuff, preferring to curl up on whatever seat wasn't occupied by Roger's bottom and therefore relieving Roger of any attacks of canine paralysis; which was convenient because then he could get cups of tea for those who were thus afflicted.
Alas I had to work, thereby removing D1's access to my fluffy dressing-gowned lap. He set up a patient vigil outside my door, got underfoot while I cooked and ate my dinner, and sits beside me as I type. His sad puppy eyes remind me that my life's destiny is nothing other than being a warm fluffy cushion for a cold little dog.
Sit on the couch. You must sit on the couch. |
If you'll excuse me, I have a couch to sit upon and can feel a case of canine paralysis coming on.
