Off We Went And Here We Are

Doing a repeat house sit in Belair was almost like coming home: I already knew where the kettle was and where to go for my morning walk.  The comfort didn't last long sadly: I worked two days, spent another day cleaning and packing, and then off we went on our next adventure.

You're leaving me?

For all that there was so much to explore between Adelaide and Melbourne, as usual we just didn't seem to have the time.  Mind you, there was always time for a cup of tea, over which I showed Roger the Landrover on the pole at Keith and he was suitably minimally impressed.  The wind was cold and the sun was absent.  We had a very brisk cup of tea.

Having ping-ponged back and forth between Adelaide and Melbourne quite a bit in the last 12 months, crossing the border didn't generate as much excitement as it may once have done

 Ho hum.

Cold and cloudy turned into cold and rainy the next day.  We hightailed into Melbourne with a quick break for smoko at Lake Learmouth.

Lake Learmouth relies on rainfall to fill, and the recent rain had obviously not been sufficient to produce a high tide.

At least the picnic shelter was perfectly situated to oversee the lake while blocking the cold wind.

In Melbourne we met two little dogs whose owners were leaving them behind while they sashayed overseas for the family trip of a lifetime. The dogs, as yet unaware that they would be abandoned at 2am the next morning, greeted us with rapture and excitement. Their family, in the throes of packing and cleaning and panicking to leave at 2am the next morning, greeted us with thankfulness and disorganisation. They bestowed upon us a set of keys, showed us where the dog food was, and were very happy to agree that we would pick up the doggie baton at a decent hour (not 2am!) the following morning and we could all message each other later to find out whatever we needed to know or had forgotten to communicate.

We retired to our Air BnB and shut the doors against the cold rain outside, delighted to discover muffins and drinking chocolate in the fridge.  That was it: we were settled for the night!

  1. Enjoy your retirement Roger!! We hope to catch up one day with you both, hopefully when in Adelaide sometime, as we've not been there, but running out of holidays this year already. And booking week off to do mundane things such as put an internal roof, and insulation in the little cold house up on the hills.
