20/04/2023 Entertainment at the Royal Adelaide
We are the temporary custodians of a Big Fluffy Cat (BFC) while his owners are overseas. BFC likes being brushed, sitting on keyboards, and sleeping on the humans' bed. Unfortunately BFC had rather a mixed up first night with us because Roger got himself a painful tummy/back so we tried out the facilities at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and BFC had to sleep alone for most of the night.
Excuse me, you have no hair! |
Everyone at the Royal Adelaide was very nice and there was even free entertainment in the form of various drunks, security men, no-nonsense nurses, and the general parade of the unwell or worried public. People in Adelaide crashed their cars (four crashes!), ran into elbows while playing footy, sprouted mysterious rashes, broke their ankles, and got bopped over the head with a stick while floating on a cloud of chemical enhancement. Roger was really quite dull by comparison, and was eventually sent home at 0230 with suitable pills and written instructions for the GP. The BFC was not impressed, and ignored us in the hope that we would go away.
Sadly, the cars windscreen repair appointment cared not a whit that we'd been up way too late the night before. We still had to front up early to get the cracked windscreen replaced with a shiny new one. Unfortunately during the replacement operation the plastic cover for the rear vision mirror mount got cracked. Fortunately (given that the replacement is on a slow boat from France) it's purely a cosmetic part so we are going with a post-modern functional rear vision mirror mount for the foreseeable future.
As long as it works. |
Apart from all that excitement we settled in and got to know the BFC a little better. He deigned to be brushed and nipped us when we inadvertently touched the sore spots which are inevitable on a 13 year old cat. We figured out where important things like light switches were, and the neighbours peeped at us from behind their curtains but didn't say hello.
We'll have to work on that.
