27/01/2022 Albury Knights: Albury

Driving down the highway at 110kph does not make for an exciting day.  Yes, there are moments of excitement generated by too many trucks crammed into too little road, but those (thankfully) were few and far between and most of the time we just drove down the highway.

Being a solid 400km from the coast, we had not factored submarines into our plans.

Lo and behold, a submarine!  So we stopped and took a look.

The truly entertaining story of how the HMAS Otway came to berth in Holbrook can be found here.  Unfortunately we didn't have time to visit the periscope and fully explore the intricacies of the submarine museum, so Holbrook and the HMAS Otway have been placed on our ever-growing list of Things to Come Back  To.

By 5pm we only had a kilometre of New South Wales left and that wasn't going to take long to cover at 110kph, so rather than carry on right into Victoria we decided to spend a night with the Knights at the Albury Manor.

I met my old friend from two years ago.  He hasn't changed a bit.

He's not George the cat, but he'll do.

There's no great back story to the Albury Manor.   A man built the manor, and he liked medieval stuff so he build his manor in a medieval theme and I'm very glad he did. This is no bland and boring biscuit-box motel and if you get a chance to visit my metal friends at the Albury Manor you won't regret a minute of it.

(There's an indoor pool with over it a mezzanine floor that is part of the restaurant; a grand piano in the enormous dining room; and a beautiful outdoor terrace which is the site of many a wedding and reception).

...and a hallway that goes on for ever.  Roger tiptoes down the hallway, expecting axe murderers around every corner. There's not many corners, so he's safe.

Home for the night: slumming it in the Albury Manor.
