Our time in Port Adelaide is nearly over: the dog's owner comes home on Sunday and we will be homeless on the move again. In the mean time we have to make the most of our last days in Port, so back to Glenelg we went, for lunch with family.
Lots of other people went to Glenelg for lunch as well, and they grabbed all the picnic tables before we got there. We were forced to sit in the shade and eat our lunch looking out over the beach and the bright blue sea. It was a hardship to be sure.

And then I got on my bike.
Now it was tempting to allow the stiff southerly to escort me up the foreshore beside the bright blue sea, but I'd already done that a couple of times so I went inland instead:
Past the slums where the other half ekes out a living,
and past the airport which was very busy with planes coming and going because the borders opened two days ago and Adelaideans are busy either importing Covid or flying to places where they can catch it.
My kind of urban riding.
I was having so much fun that I thought it was unfair for Roger to be merely sitting at home being adored by the dog, so we arranged to meet at Semaphore and I began to navigate back through the suburbs toward the foreshore.
Adelaide has a bikeway beside every rail line, major road, or creek.
More of my kind of riding.
I pedaled along the foreshore of West Lakes, part of the Port River catchment, |
where all the private schools were out practicing their rowing. This resulted in a 5km slalom course through packs of private school students jogging and random rowing coaches riding bicycles, shouting through loud hailers, and not looking where they were going.
I found Roger at Semaphore, being entertained by a man preaching passionately to crowds of seagulls. We bicycled briskly up to Outer Harbour and caught the train home, because cycling home would have involved a head wind and neither of us was excited about that. Actually, we caught the train past home, because I had to cycle an extra 2.6km to make a neat 40km total for the day.
Please ignore the straight bit. I tried to pause RWGPS while I was on the train, and then re-start for the rest of the ride. It didn't work.
