13/08/2021 Lake Dyer to Clifton
Yesterday we paid very little attention to unpacking our panniers, merely exploding their contents throughout the car which, combined with the mess already there, resulted in difficulty finding any items at all.
"Meh" I said, after mistakenly brushing my teeth with hand cream. "Maybe we should sort this out. Later."
Later because Lake Dyer, built primarily to provide irrigation for the surrounding farmland, has barely enough water in it to keep the pelicans happy.
And definitely not enough water to attract any recreational users! |
This meant that there was hardly anyone camping there and we were free to experiment with cooking pancakes on a BBQ using only baking paper and a plastic fork (and pancake mix - we're not that silly!), which was much more exciting than sorting out camping gear.
That's not too bad if you don't mind a bit of charcoal. The |
Pancakes eaten, we wended our way to Clifton via the Gatton Clifton road which was, as always, winding and scenic. Once settled in to the Clifton Showgrounds we took a deep breath, exploded the contents of the car out onto the ground, and commenced a frenzy of sorting and repacking.
My what a nice neatly packed car. We can find things now, including toothpaste! The tent is also under cover, so forecast rain won't bother us at all. |
We had a deadline to be gone in the morning because the gates to the showground (which is in the middle of the racetrack) close between 10 and noon every day to allow racehorses to train on the track. And we had to make sure we got out because we're going to the zoo tomorrow!
