16/07/21 Nanango to Maleny

A light drizzle fell as we packed the car, confirming that the weather had finally read the memo and Roger could relax.

Yay! It's raining!

Today was all about checking out the roads  between Kingaroy and Yarraman along which we will be cycling in a week or two. We also had to  responsibly manage our coffee and cake intake as we caught up with multiple friends. After thoroughly intimidating ourselves with the size of the hills on the way to Kingaroy, we spent a pleasant hour or two in the Glendon St Cafe catching up with the esteemed Mrs C, a fountain of information on all things crochet, spinning, and weaving.

The white peanut silos of Kingaroy, as seen from Mt Wooroolin.

Catch-up completed, we took a quick trip up Mt Wooroolin before heading back to Nanango, along the way finding different hills to consider for bicycling, for a late lunch date with Mrs B and baby J. Well Mrs B is an excellent cook; baby J can consume a prodigious amount of pumpkin soup; and conversation flowed freely over a nice pot of tea so the afternoon was wearing on by the time we said our farewells.

'Let's follow the bicycle route to Yarraman', we said. 'See what we're up for in a week or two'.

So we followed a sweet little road into the forest until it wasn't a sweet little road any more, but was instead soggy, boggy, and slippery.

Nope.

And nope.  Adventure be damned.  Good food awaits.

We didn't want to get stuck out there because we had a dinner date with another excellent cook in Maleny, so off we went into the Din Din State Forest, heading for the highway. Din Din State Forest was quite the adventure, with lots of choice for where to go.

Din Din State Forest option 1.

Din Din State Forest option 2.

Goodness knows what we would have done without Google to tell us what to do, although the noise of traffic on the highway may have given us a directional clue.

Please tell me where to go!

I'm glad to report that we made it out  of the forest alive and found our way to Maleny for a catch up with Mrs F, who plied us with lasagne, cheesecake, congenial company, and a warm and comfortable bed for the night.
