When Do The Bins Go Out?
Here I am in the void between Christmas and New Year, full of cheese and chocolate and not knowing when to put the bin out because I haven't a clue what day of the week it is.
Let's backpedal a bit.
I spent the week before Christmas working because someone had to have holidays and it wasn't me. In between working I found several Santas;
went to a Christmas party;
Hmmm. |
visited Milang where I found my box of Christmas decorations in the storage shed;
Pelican flight. Much more interesting than dusty boxes of decorations. |
and tried to take photos of two very patient dogs in Christmas hats.
I don't think I have a future as a pet photographer. |
My BD (beautiful daughter) arrived by bus and spent three whirlwind days with us, including Christmas day with rellies in Mountain Barker.
Not the BD, in case you were wondering. |
We took her on a lickety-split tour of Adelaide:
Evening picnic at Henley Beach, |
Big wheel at Glenelg. |
Then we decided that we were all too old to go out and mix with the Christmas revellers so we went home and watched Christmas movies instead.
On Boxing Day evening we waved BD off on a bus jam packed with people all going to Melbourne. "Look out for bush fires!" I said, because the highway goes right past the Grampians which were currently all alight and causing all sorts of conniptions and road closures. Not that I expected the bus company to recklessly roast their passengers, but a bush fire at night can be a terrifyingly beautiful and unpredictable thing.
She messaged me as she rolled, unroasted, in to Melbourne the following morning. "I didn't see anything. I was asleep." Oh to be so young that one can sleep soundly on a bus, blissfully ignoring the risk of roasting.
And now it's not quite the New Year and I'm back to the perplexing question of when to put the bins out and whether I should think about this or just copy the neighbours who are probably just copying their neighbours, and where does that end?
I think I'll go for a bike ride instead. In the mean time, here's a wheel-eye view of Glenelg.
Old town hall building, town square, and the top of the Holdfast Bay obelisk. |
Down Jetty Road toward the Hills. |
Beach with striped umbrellas. |
