A seamless Sydney train journey to the airport, a long wait, a last-minute speed-walk to my gate and the bonus of a window seat! Not to mention more movies than I could ever hope to watch, and I was a happy little camper for the flight to Tokyo. Oh, and a whole heap of food which was pretty tasty for airline cuisine: what can I say? I'm easily pleased.

Leaving Sydney |
NSW and Queensland unrolled below me, with a viewing intermission as we skirted the cloud blanket produced by ex tropical cyclone Alfred.

The Torres Strait, delicately painted with atolls, reefs, and islands. |
PNG was disappointingly covered in cloud but no matter, I settled in to my movies instead. The next time I peeked out of the window shadows had puddled across the clouds below.

The sun had long gone by the time we reached Tokyo.
I had lost an hour and a half on the flight, giving me a convenient time buffer in which to navigate exiting customs, buying a train pass, and finding my way through the spaghetti wilds of Tokyo's metro system which eventually delivered me, quite worn out, onto the street within spitting distance of my hotel. Not that any public spitting is happening in Tokyo, and that's a good thing too.
