Sweet Rides.
Roger had to retrace his steps (wheels?), back to Tanunda on Sunday. Which he did, but not before complaining bitterly about the overnight temperatures in Kapunda which saw him forced to wear his puffer jacket to bed. He was suffering a head cold too, which didn't help.
Back over the hill. |
There were a few bumpy push-your-bike bits along the Mawson but that was merely healthy exercise in the end. In Tanunda the party had ended, the RV club had gone home, and he had neither sweeties, $3 beers, or food trucks to sustain him. Oh well, pub foraging it was again.
Cold mornings notwithstanding, the weather gods blessed him on Monday. The forecast rain did not eventuate and he fairly zoomed along with the benefits of both a downhill and a tailwind.
Back at home I discovered that in the spirit of
sharing and caring he had given his head cold to me before he left. He's
nice like that. I had my own adventure anyway: I had to drive up to
Scott Creek to pick someone up so I went early, took the scenic route,
and had a stickybeak at the site of the old Amanda Silver mine and the ruins of Mackereth Cottage.
Once was a thriving farm complex. |
There were lots of interesting ruins and beguiling paths to hike but unfortunately I had someone waiting to get picked up, and the someone had a plane to catch, so I had to put the old mine on my list of things to come back to and keep on adventuring.
While I was doing that Roger was continuing his sweet ride back to Gawler with a few stops along the way to appreciate fancy cars.
What a nice rig. The cars were OK too. |
Playground car with delusions of grandeur. |
The dog was overjoyed to have Roger back again, and it was my turn to complain bitterly about having a head cold. Roger was just glad to have a shower and a proper couch to sit on. We decided that we really had to go cycle touring together some time when we weren't committed to looking after other people's houses and pets. In the mean time the house sit was drawing to a close and plans demanded to be made.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to nurse my head cold with a nice cup of tea.
