Don't Fall Down The Stairs
Our new house sit came with a beautiful view of Victor Harbor and an energetic dog who needed walkies twice a day. I opted to do the morning walk given that I'm usually wide awake at 5:30 anyway. For three days Dog and I explored the walking paths along the Hindmarsh River, sniffing energetically at all sorts of things (Dog) and taking photos (me).

From a different window: grand old buildings above the Hindmarsh River. |
Our new house sit, along with the view, had a set of spiral stairs which I, half awake and in the dark, descended every morning for dog walkies. "I should turn on the light," I thought, "I don't want to fall down these stairs."
Barely had my obviously-not-awake-enough neurones processed the thought when I did just that.

Not that I actually fell down the stairs, mind you. I fell off the bottom stair and landed with a bang and a healthy shot of adrenaline that saw me through putting on my shoes and heading off for dog walkies while thanking my lucky stars that I hadn't hurt myself at all.

Above the Hindmarsh River, about when I realised that my foot was getting more sore as the adrenaline wore off. |

It's all downhill to home from here. Which I theorised would be more comfortable than walking uphill. It wasn't. |
Dog and I walked and sniffed for a good hour and a half, by which time I had revised my initial assessment and decided that I had a very sore toe.

I think I'll have to tape that toe. My big toe joined the bruise party too, just for fun. The big toe doesn't hurt, though, so there's that. |
The result of all that was that I'm off dog walking duty for the time being so it's a good thing Roger's back is up to two dog walks a day even if the whole early morning thing is not his cup of tea. We congratulated ourselves on taking turns at infirmity and I've given myself a day or two before I test the theory that a broken toe won't hurt while riding a bicycle.
Oh, and I turn on the light when I go down the stairs now.
